Jack and the Beanstalk
Storybooks come alive with this colorful craft. This is a great class or group project that lets kids put their own take on the classic tale Jack and the Bean Stalk. In our tale Jack makes it to the top of the beanstalk while a frantic goose frets over the golden egg. Cows in the pasture look on in disbelief! Re-tell the story as you like, using Kwik Stix fast drying solid tempera paint sticks.
Using Kwik Stix made putting together this colorful craft as easy as color, cut and paste. Kwik Stix dries in 90 seconds and makes what looks like a difficult project, fast and easy.
Here’s how we put our tale together.
Using one or two cardboard tubes, such as the one’s on paper towels, color and decorate the beanstalk.
The Giant & Storybook Characters
Using a white sheet of cardboard or a box you have at home, create the storyboard. We drew our giant freehand and improvised his arms. Our giant comes out of the clouds and peers at Jack. You can draw your giant, as you see him.
Adding the Giant & Other Characters
3. Complete the Story
And that’s all there is to it!
Here’s what you’ll need:
ü Kwik Stix Solid Tempera Paints
ü White Cardboard
ü Cardboard Tube
ü 10 or more sheets of paper
ü Scotch tape
ü Glue stick
Time: 1 hour (if worked on all at once)
The total time to do this complete craft will depend on how many people work on the craft and how much time you have to devote to the craft. It is a great classroom or family craft. Because Kwik Stix dry in 90 seconds, you don’t have to wait or allot drying time to complete your story.
Tips for a Successful Project:
· Use a glue stick to paste down and connect flowers to avoid curling if you’ll be working over several days.
· If you will be working on this project over several days, paint both sides of leaves and tips of flowers so that you still see color if they curl. This will keep the 3D effect of the leaves and flowers on the beanstalk.
· Use a Styrofoam egg or draw one to avoid it falling through the beanstalk. A hard boiled egg will be too heavy.
· Be creative and have fun!
